Things to do in Southeast Australia
Lakes Entrance & Ninety Mile Beach (1 day)
Lakes Entrance is a seaside resort and fishing port which lies along the Ninety Mile Beach. The Ninety Mile Beach is one of the longest uninterrupted beaches in the world.
Wilsons Promontory National Park (2 days)
A must do if you drive along the coast between Sydney and Melbourne. It’s a stunning National Park. Well worth the entrance and overnight parking fee you have to pay. Take a little hike around Tongue point or sunbath at the Squeaky Beach (the name is because of the fine white sand which squeak when you walk on it). For one of the best views ever walk up to Mt. Oberon, overlooking Tidal River, Wilsons Promontory National Park and the wide ocean. If you chill on the campground you can hang out with the Wombats.
Melbourne (4 days)
Melbourne, for me the hipster city, offers a lot of events all year round (sport, music, arts, festivals, …). It will never get boring. The old Flinder Railway Station, Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne and especially the Shrein of Remembrance (with a stunning view to the city) are places to go. Furthermore, you can walk along the Formula 1 Albert Park, the Yarra River and the Melbourne Sport Park. If you want to grab a drink head to Chapel/High street. For a city escape head down to St. Kilda beach.
Phillip Island (1 day)
Phillip Island can be reached via car (bridge over the water). It is home to its cute little penguins. Every evening you can watch them heading back from the water to the land.
Torquay, Lorne, Apollo Bay (1 day)
Nice beach towns along the coast between Melbourne and the beginning of the Great Ocean Road.
Great Ocean Road (3 days)
Visit the world famous 12 Apostles. We were not super lucky with the weather the first day, so we just went the day after again and were a bit more lucky. Besides the 12 Apostles you should visit as well the London Bridge, one of Australia’s most visited natural attraction.
Port Campbell
Port Campbell is a good town to stay, as it is between the 12 Apostles and the London Bridge.
