Like to see turtles at the beach? Keep on reading for the surprise we had at the beach in Las Penitas in Nicaragua.
A guy from the hostel and I thought we are going for a walk along the beach in Las Penitas. We want to cross the little river which is going into the ocean, to be on the untouched, natural beach of the “Reserva Natural Isla Juan Venado”.
Luckily we brought my dry bag because the river/ocean crossing was too deep to walk. We didn’t know if there is anything special or just an empty beach. After walking for 45 minutes without any change from the beach or landscape I thought we turn around and go back as there is nothing special to see. Luckily Randy insisted to keep going for a bit.
The turtle surprise
So, what can happen unexpected when you walk on an untouched deserted beach in a mangrove surrounded natural reserve?
Out of nowhere a turtle surpried us in the sand at the beach in Las Penitas and was going back into the water 🐢🐢🐢
Before she went back to the water, we guess she was laying her eggs into the sand.
It was just amazing to see this beautiful and peaceful animal spontaneous and randomly in the wild nature. People who know me know how much I like turtles 🙂 Luckily I was fast enough to takeout my camera to make a little video before the turtle went back to the deep wide ocean.
I hope that some of the baby turtles will find their way into the sea without being found by some people who are going to steel and sell them.
Insider tip for spoting the turtles at the beach in Las Penitas
Head there in the late afternoon. But don’t cross the river when it is high tide and strong current!! Even the crossing is not too far, but it can get dangerous if you are not the best swimmer. Especially if you are holding your dry bag with one hand 🙈 I know what I am talking about 😉
