Below you will find my Puerto Escondido Travel Guide. I have a lot of insider information as I live in Puerto Escondido. Many tips about the best Hostel in Puerto Escondido (Villa Mango Hostel). Where to stay in Puerto Escondido, what to do, where to eat any many more tips.
Puerto Escondido was once a little fishing village but is now not so small, not so unknown and not so hidden anymore. Puerto Escondido has luckily no all-inclusive resorts or any other big resorts, therefore it keeps kind of the charm of a little village. It is nowadays especially known along surfers, backpackers and yogis. Slowly a little Digital Nomad community is building up, but in many places the internet is still too unstable. With roughly 50000 inhabitants, 7 beaches and a 20minute drive from one end to the other it is much bigger or especially more spreaded out than many visitors are thinking.

Where to stay in Puerto Escondido
My favorite hostel in Puerto Escondido, I think it’s the best hostel in Puerto Escondido, is Villa Mango Hostel. It has a cool vibe and a perfect mix between chill, relax, socialize and party. They have free weekly Spanish lessons and movie nights. It’s located in the center of Puerto Escondido, in a non-touristy neighborhood. So you can experience the real Mexican life and not only the touristy areas. You have the advantage of being close to the best and cheapest food option around. Villa Mango Hostel has free bicycles to use, therefore it’s easy to get around in town or to the beaches.

How to get to Mazunte from Puerto Escondido
How to get to Chacahua from Puerto Escondido
From Puerto Escondido, take a mini-van direction Pinotepa Nacional from Av Hidalgo (departures are about every 20 minutes) and get out at the Zapotalito turnoff ($45 MXN). From there, colectivos will drive you the few kilometers to Zapotalito for 20-50 MXN.
The starting point for boat trips along the lagoons to Chacahua village is the small fishing village of Zapotalito, at the eastern end of Laguna La Pastoría. From Zapotalito to Chacahua village you will have to take the boat. When there is sufficient traffic colectivo boat services run for $150 MXN person one way.
